Dr. Heather Eggleston, BSc, ND
As a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine, my mission is to support people on their journey towards health and wellbeing. As a family naturopathic doctor, I work with people of all ages with a variety of health concerns. Together we address the underlying cause of illness with natural, safe and effective treatment and education of the principles of healthy living and preventive medicine.
Naturopathic medicine integrates scientific, evidence based medicine with the wisdom of ancient healing traditions, providing patients with optimal care. I believe that conventional and naturopathic medicine work together. The word doctor is derived from the Latin word docere meaning teacher and a naturopathic doctor's role is to educate, support and empower people with the tools to achieve their health goals. We support wellbeing of mind, body and spirit by removing the obstacles that prevent health.
My journey began growing up in the quiet countryside of northern BC, eating carrots and peas out of the garden. My family instilled me with the values of healthy living as a child. I discovered that the principles of naturopathic medicine reflected my own values and how I want to live. I was inspired to follow the path of becoming a naturopathic doctor, devoting myself to my own health journey and empowering others to live healthy, happy lives.
Following my curiosity in the science of life my interest in the connection of mind and body, I pursued a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Psychology at the University of Victoria. After another dedicated four years of naturopathic medical school, I graduated from the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine in Vancouver.
Passionate about building a community of wellness, I have organized cancer prevention workshops, initiated holisitic health discussion groups, facilitated group meditations and co-founded a garden committee. I have volunteered for palliative care, peer support and environmental conservation groups. My clinical experience at Boucher included offering complimentary naturopathic care to low income families at the Family Medicine Clinic and individuals living with life threatening illness at Friends for Life.
I believe in living a balanced life and love nature, hiking, cooking, gardening, dancing, meditation, and reading. I am often at farmers' markets, taking yoga classes and biking along the Rideau Canal.
I invite you to take the next step towards better health. I offer support to empower you to get there.
